The availability of high-res stock photography has grown substantially over the last couple of years. Stock photo websites have become a haven for web designers and artists in need of images for their projects. I was surprised to hear from some clients that they have incurred substantial “extra charges” for use of stock photography by web designers. The reality is that even if you are buying images from quality pay sites such as istockphoto.com you only need low – medium resolution images for web. High-res (more costly) images are mostly used for print advertisements.
There are also alternatives to pay site which offer free stock photography for use on websites. Here’s a few free stock photography sites I have found useful for use in projects. Although these sites offer free downloads of images it’s important to always read the copyright and licensing agreement prior to use.
